Vicks V750 Warm Mist Humidifier Review: Buy It for Simplicity, Not Automation

Buy it if: a cool adult bedroom is dry, you prefer visible warm vapor, you will measure humidity separately, and you accept regular mineral-scale cleaning.

What the exact V750 includes

Vicks identifies model V750 as a medium-to-large-room warm-mist humidifier with:

• Up to 24 hours of advertised runtime
• Low and high output settings
• Filter-free operation
• An automatic shutoff function
• A medicine cup for compatible liquid inhalant
• A separate scent-pad compartment

The runtime is a manufacturer maximum and will vary by output and room conditions. More importantly, this is a manual-output machine. It will not stop at 45% relative humidity because it has no built-in target control.

The buying decision is warm mist versus control

Warm mist heats water before releasing vapor. That removes the cool draft some people dislike, but it uses a heating element and creates hot components. The V750 manual explicitly warns that steam can cause burns and says not to touch the vapor.

For a household with a child, a curious pet, an unstable bedside table, or limited floor separation, choose cool mist. No comfort preference is worth a preventable tip or contact burn.

No humidistat means one extra purchase

EPA advises keeping indoor relative humidity between 30% and 50%. The V750 cannot measure or hold that range by itself, so pair it with a separate digital hygrometer placed away from the mist plume. A sensor immediately beside the humidifier can read the local cloud rather than the room.

Start on low, close the bedroom door as you normally would, and check the gauge after the room has stabilized. Condensation on windows or damp surfaces is a stop signal, not evidence that the machine is working especially well.

The medicine cup is not the tank

The manual draws a firm boundary: compatible liquid inhalant goes in the medicine cup. Do not pour it into the water tank, base, reservoir, or mist chimney. Scent pads go in the dedicated scent-pad door. Buyers who want to add arbitrary oils directly to humidifier water need a model explicitly designed for that use.

Cleaning workload

Filter-free does not mean maintenance-free. Tap water leaves mineral deposits in the heating chamber and tray. Scale changes the routine from a simple rinse to deliberate descaling.

A realistic ownership plan is:

1. Empty stale water before refilling.
2. Let hot parts cool and unplug the unit before handling it.
3. Follow the manual’s regular cleaning steps rather than scraping the heating element with an improvised tool.
4. Descale sooner when visible mineral deposits form.
5. Dry the parts before storage.

If your water is very hard, distilled water can reduce scale, but it does not eliminate the need to clean the tank and water-contact surfaces.
