If you want a sheet that feels like workout gear and stays put on a thick mattress, start with SHEEX Original Performance. It’s a stretchy polyester and spandex knit that SHEEX says pulls sweat away from your skin, and the queen fits mattresses up to 18 inches deep. If you’d rather sleep on cotton, Brooklinen Classic Percale is a 270-thread-count percale that Brooklinen calls cool, crisp and ideal for hot sleepers. Buffy Breeze is a smooth, matte TENCEL lyocell sheet with no synthetic fibers, and Bedsure’s rayon-from-bamboo set is the silky option at the lowest price of the four.

Nobody at Sound Sleep Gear has slept on these sheets. This list compares what each maker publishes about fiber, construction, fit and care. Every cooling claim below is the maker’s own, not a measurement of ours.

Where sheets fit in a cooler bed

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute advises keeping your bedroom “quiet, cool, and dark,” and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine suggests keeping the room at a comfortable, cool temperature. Sheets don’t change the room. They change the fabric against your skin, and each maker here builds that fabric differently: a synthetic knit, a cotton weave, or a manufactured cellulose fiber. If your mattress itself feels hot, a sheet may not be enough on its own; our guide to cooling mattress pads vs breathable sheets covers that trade-off.

The picks

SHEEX Original Performance: best performance knit for deep mattresses

SHEEX calls Original Performance “the first in active-wear-style bedding,” with athleisure-style softness and four-way stretch. The fabric is 87% performance polyester and 13% spandex. SHEEX says the knit construction encourages airflow and reduces trapped heat, and that the moisture-wicking fabric pulls sweat away from your skin to keep you dry.

The stretch also helps with fit. SHEEX says the athletic-grade elastic bands keep the sheets in place and that the set fits deep-pocket mattresses and adjustable beds. The queen set includes a flat sheet, a fitted sheet and two pillowcases, and SHEEX lists it for mattresses up to 18 inches deep, with a fitted sheet measuring 80 by 60 by 15 inches.

Care is stricter than for cotton. SHEEX says to machine wash cold before use, wash dark colors separately, and skip bleach, dryer sheets and fabric softener. The link below is the queen set in black.

Brooklinen Classic Percale: best crisp cotton percale

Brooklinen describes Classic Percale as “cool, crisp, and ideal for hot sleepers.” The sheets are 270-thread-count long-staple cotton woven one yarn over and one yarn under, which Brooklinen says gives a matte finish and a breathable, hotel-style feel. It calls the lightweight, matte finish the top choice for warmer climates and year-round hot sleepers.

The Core Sheet Set includes a flat sheet, a fitted sheet and two pillowcases. Brooklinen says its fitted sheets fit mattresses up to 16 inches deep, with 12 to 16 inches the best fit, so this is the pick to double-check if your mattress has a thick topper. The set is certified to OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 for harmful substances.

Brooklinen’s care guide for Classic Percale says to machine wash cold with like colors, tumble dry low and remove promptly, use only non-chlorine bleach, and iron on low if needed.

Brooklinen’s Amazon listings say “Percale” without naming Classic Percale or Washed Classic Percale, which Brooklinen sells as a separate line, so the link below is a search. Check that the listing is the Classic Percale before you buy.

Buffy Breeze: best plant-based fiber without synthetics

Buffy weaves Breeze from 100% TENCEL lyocell, which it describes as a cellulosic fiber from eucalyptus. Buffy says the sheets “cool when you run hot” and lists hot sleepers among the people they’re best for. It also points out that many performance cooling sheets rely on nylon and spandex, while Breeze uses no synthetics. Buffy describes the feel as smooth and matte, like well-washed silk without the sheen.

The colors come from what Buffy calls steeping the fabric in flowers, fruit, herbs and minerals instead of conventional synthetic dyeing, and the fabric is certified to OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 Class I. The queen set has a 92 by 102 inch flat sheet, a 60 by 80 by 15 inch fitted sheet and two 20 by 29 inch pillowcases.

Care is simple: Buffy says to machine wash cold and tumble dry low. The link below is the queen set in cream.

Bedsure PureWoven Rayon Derived from Bamboo: best silky sheet for less

Bedsure labels this set “rayon derived from bamboo” and says the fabric is softer than cotton, breathable for summer coolness and cozy in winter. Its fitted sheet has 16-inch deep pockets, and the envelope-style pillowcases are meant to reduce friction on hair. The set has a flat sheet, a fitted sheet and two pillowcases (one pillowcase in twin and twin XL), and it’s certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100.

This fabric needs the gentlest handling of the four. Bedsure says bamboo fabric needs gentle care and recommends a laundry bag, a cold gentle cycle and low dryer heat, with no bleach or fabric softener. At the makers’ own store prices on October 9, 2026, it was the lowest-priced queen set here.

How to choose cooling sheets

Start with the fiber. The four picks cover four different materials. SHEEX is synthetic (polyester and spandex), Brooklinen is cotton, and both Buffy and Bedsure use manufactured cellulose fibers. Under the FTC’s textile fiber rules, rayon is a manufactured fiber made of regenerated cellulose, and lyocell is the name allowed for a rayon made from cellulose precipitated out of an organic solution. So read the fiber line, not the plant name: Bedsure’s label reads “rayon derived from bamboo,” and Buffy’s reads TENCEL lyocell.

Decide between woven and knit. Percale is a woven fabric; Brooklinen describes its percale weave as one yarn over and one yarn under, with a matte finish. SHEEX’s knit stretches in four directions, which matters most if your sheets tend to pop off the corners.

Measure your mattress, including any topper. Pocket depth varies more than you might expect: up to 18 inches for the SHEEX queen, 16 inches for Bedsure and Brooklinen (which names 12 to 16 inches as its best fit), and a 15-inch fitted sheet for Buffy. A sheet that has to stretch tight over a deep bed is more likely to slip. Our guide to mattress pad pocket depth explains how to measure.

Plan for the care you’ll actually do. Brooklinen and Buffy say to wash cold and tumble dry low. SHEEX rules out bleach, dryer sheets and fabric softener. Bedsure asks for the most care, with a laundry bag, a gentle cycle and low heat.

Treat cooling words as marketing, not measurements. Each maker uses its own language, from “cool, crisp” to “cools when you run hot.” None of that is a promise about your bed or your bedroom, so match the fabric to the feel you prefer, then deal with room temperature separately.

If your bed still runs hot with a lighter sheet, compare a cooling topper and a cooling sheet , or look at our cooling mattress pad guide for powered and passive pads.

FAQ

What sheet material is best for hot sleepers?

There is no single answer. The makers here sell four different approaches as cool or breathable for hot sleepers: a polyester and spandex performance knit (SHEEX), cotton percale (Brooklinen), TENCEL lyocell (Buffy) and rayon derived from bamboo (Bedsure). Pick by the feel you want, your mattress depth and the care you’ll actually do.

What’s the difference between bamboo, rayon and lyocell sheets?

Check the fiber label. Bedsure labels its set “rayon derived from bamboo,” and under the FTC’s textile rules, rayon is a manufactured fiber made of regenerated cellulose. Lyocell, the fiber in Buffy’s sheets, falls under the same rayon definition.

Will cooling sheets fit a deep mattress?

Check the maker’s pocket depth. SHEEX says its queen fits mattresses up to 18 inches deep, Bedsure lists 16-inch pockets, Brooklinen says its fitted sheets fit up to 16 inches with 12 to 16 inches the best fit, and Buffy lists a 15-inch queen fitted sheet.

Do cooling sheets lower your body temperature?

The cooling language on these sheets is each maker’s own claim, and Sound Sleep Gear hasn’t measured any of them. Sheets are one layer of the bed, and sleep guidance from NHLBI and AASM points first at keeping the bedroom itself cool.
